NEW DELHI (PTI): The Bharatiya Janata Party March 9 blamed infighting in the Congress as the “main contributory factor” for the eruption of “heinous riots” in Bombay.

In a Statement here, the party vice president, Krishan Lal Sharma, said the change in the Maharashtra chief minister ship was a clear confession by the Congress and premier Rao, that it was not Ayodhya which was the cause of the recent riots in Bombay. He demanded dismissal of the Maharashtra and Gujarat governments for the recent riots in these two states and holding of fresh elections to the assemblies.

He said the “unprecedented riots warrant immediate dismissal of these two state governments” and only fresh elections would pacify the people of these two states.

Sharma said the events in these two states had left no doubt that the prime minister had “calculatedly adopted the path of confrontation,” He reiterated his party’s demand for holding of midterm poll to the Lok Sabha (Lower House) and the four state assemblies of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, which were dissolved following the Ayodhya incident.
