NEW DELHI: Revenue Minister Braham Dutt Dwivedi of BJ.P.-led U.P. government has ordered a survey of forest and other land available in Terai region of the state to settle Hindu farmers “so that the population imbalance is removed”.
Dwivedi has been quoted by media reports that the increased militant activity in Lakhimpur Kheri, Pilibhit, Naini Tal, Bareilly and Rampur districts in U.P. was due to the domination of about 30 lakh Sikhs. The problem of militancy could be tackled if the Sikhs are reduced in percentage in the region and more Sikhs are settled. This could be done by car marking available land for allotment to non-Sikhs as also enforcing land ceiling legislation more rigorously to acquire land from Sikh farmers.
