GUWAHATI: The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Barpeta district have been transferred while the Army continued its “Operation Kranti” to flush out Bodos from sensitive areas of the state.

A state government spokesman here said that not a single incident of violence has been reported from Barpeta district. But indefinite curfew imposed at the beginning of the violence is continuing along with security patrol.

Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia has requested the Defense Ministry to order “operational command” to the Army for launching full-fledged operation against the Bodo Security Force militants and culprits independently.

Meanwhile combing operations by the Anny is continuing in the northern belt of Barpeta district right up to the Bhutan border to track down the culprits responsible for the ethnic violence, the sources said, More than 100 persons have been arrested in this connection from various parts of Tower Assam, it said.
