BAWAL (REWARI): The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal, warned his Punjab counterpart, Beant Singh against rejecting the Eradi Tribunal Award on water sharing between Punjab and Haryana.

“Beant Singh has no right to reject the Eradiibunal report,” Bhajan Lal said, adding that the report enjoyed sanctity of a statutory tribunal. “Nobody can reject it.” he said. Seeking the intervention of the Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, to help resolve the issue, between the to states, of sharing the Ravi Beas water by ensuring the completion of the SYL canal, Bhajan Lal said that the Prime Minister would soon call a meeting of the chief ministers.

Bhajan Lal asked Beant Singh to use restrain while making statements on the Water issue, He said Haryana was only demanding its rightful “share in the Ravi Beas water.”

He also asked Beant Singh to advise his ministerial colleagues to restrain from flaring up the issue. He said the issue can only be resolved in a spirit of brotherhood.

“We have laid our part of the SYL you complete your part of the canal so that our dry channel of Indira canal, Lohanu canal, Mahender Garh canal and Mevat canal can be made alive by gushing waters,” Bhajan Lal said, He added that he had already spoken to the Union Water Resources Minister, V.C. Shukla, to seek New Delhi’s intervention.
