AMRITSAR: Indian security forces shot dead Bhai Nirver Singh Manochahal, the younger brother of the chief of the Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan, Baba Gurbachan Singh Manochahal, in an encounter near village Khara Sept.10 as the fight against militants continued.

Tarn Taran police chief, Ajit Singh said Nirver Singh, who was a Lt Gen” of the outfit, carried a reward of Rs 500,000 on his head. He ran what the police said was a consignment and distributions racket in charge of bringing arms and ammunition for militant outfits in Punjab.

Ajit Singh said Nirver Singh was killed when the security forces in a raid intercepted a car in which he was travelling near the village.

In the ensuing encounter militants lobbed hand grenades besides exchanging fire in which Nirver Singh was killed. A large amount of explosives were seized from the car.
