CHANDIGARH, India: Baba Gurcharan Singh Manochal member of the Five Member Panthic Committee and carrying reward of one lakh rupees on his head escaped the police dragnet after an encounter while a timely siren foiled an attempt to loot a nationalized bank at Jullundur on October 23rd. A salesman of the liquor vend was shot at and seriously injured at Sherin village in Ludhiana district while authorities allowed a two hour relaxation in the curfew at Malaut.
The Amritsar district Police Chief, Mr. Mohammad Azhar Alam told newsmen at Amritsar that Manochal along with four of his associates escaped after a brief encounter near Naushehra Pannu village on Oct. 23rd. Manochal ‘was appointed acting chief of Akal Takht and was among those who declared the formation of Khalistan from Golden Temple on April 29th this year.
