CHANDIGARH (PTI) : Bhai Jagir Singh Madher, a top militant who was the Lt Gen of the Babbar Khalsa , a militant organization, and ten other militants were among 18 people killed while six persons, including a security man, were injured in the northern Indian state of Punjab.
According to police sources, Militant Jagir Singh Madher consumed cyanide and died in an encounter with security forces in Patti area of Tarn Taran.
The body of one Gurcharan Singh was recovered from Nea Harsha Cheena village in Amritsar district while an unidentified bullet-ridden body was found in Nangal Bagwan village in Batala district.
Two persons, including suspected militant Harinder Singh, were killed and four vendors were injured when a bomb exploded in Chowk Chaurasti Attari at Amritsar. The other victim was identified as Kashmiri Lal. A militant was suspected to have planted the bomb.
Gunmen shot dead four members of a community in village Mehta and injured another in Majitha police district.
Three unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with police near village Khanpur in Sangrur district.
