JULLUNDUR, Punjab, India: Jullundur police announced the arrest of Bhai Dalip Singh, who was appointed Head Granthi of the Takht Keshgarh Sahib and allegedly recovered 3.10 lakhs of rupees from him which the police claimed to be part of the 5.7 crore rupees stolen from a Ludhiana bank. The police also claimed to have recovered a revolver from him. Bhai Dalip Singh was carrying a reward of 50,000 rupees on his head. He was arrested while coming out of a house in Jullundur whereas A-L S.S.F. in a press note has stated that he was arrested on November 18 from S.AS, Nagar near Chandigarh. He was appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib by the Sarbat Khalsa held on Diwali day, October 22, 1987.
The Sikh Cultural Society, New York, in a telephone message to World Sikh News condemned the arrest of Jathedar Dalip Singh and asked the government to stop fabricating false cases against Sikh religious leaders. The persecution of religious leaders is fraught with dangerous consequences, the SCS. Spokesman said.
