Guru Gobind Singh Foundation based in Rockville, Maryland, launched a massive movement in U.S.A, and abroad to get a long overdue universal acclaim for Bhagat Puran Singh, founder of Pingalwara, located in Amritsar, Punjab. Bhagat Ji, now 86 years old, has dedicated his life to the service of physically mentally and emotionally sick people. He gives tender loving care to the homeless and dying and adds a spark of dignity to their otherwise solitary and withered lives, His one man mission, became an institution known as “Pingalwara monument to the spirit of selfless service,” a facility in which 300 men, women and children find haven. This institution is non-sectarian and secular. He is an apostle to the sick and afflicted.
To educate masses, Bhagat Ji has published many pamphlets on varied subjects such as, oil disasters, environmental pollution, youth problems, and on scriptures of different religions and many more other subjects. These pamphlets are distributed free of charge.
Amrit Kaur, member Board of Directors of Guru Gobind Singh Foundation, personally vent to interview him last December 1991 She collected all necessary information pertaining to his life and activities, She also contacted many law makers, academicians, and historians of U.S.A. and abroad to get Bhagat ji nominated for Nobel Peace Prize in 1992, Background material to these dignitaries was provided by Dr.1J.Singh of New York University in a comprehensive article detailing Bhagat jis achievements and accomplishments. This article will appear in the coming issue of Sikh Vision, a publication of Guru Gobind Singh Foundation.
