The resignation of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao from the Congress president ship was widely welcomed by party dissidents and the Opposition, alike. While the dissidents called it a “good and right decision”, the Left parties demanded that Rao be tried in all the major cases of corruption against him. The Bharatiya Janata Party welcomed Rao’s resignation saying “wisdom has finally dawned on him.”
In a statement, party spokesman Yashwant Sinha said, Rao has realized that this was only the beginning of his trouble and
“St will be not possible for him to continue as the Congress president.” Reacting to the special court order holding him as a co accused in the Lakhubhai Pathak case, the BJP spokesman said “Rao’s sins are catching up with him. “The Communist Party of India Marxist (CPIM) said Rao should be tried in all major cases of corruption against him”.
