CHANDIGARH: A head constable of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), escorting the Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh, was killed and a constable injured following a scuffle with the local police outside the Cricket Pavilion, Sector 16 here, on Jan.21. The incident occurred during the one day international match between India and England. The deceased has been identified as Jai Singh, 40, a resident of Haryana. The injured constable Machhinder, 24, is a resident of Kamataka. Both of them belonged to A18 battalion of the CRPF. The trouble started immediately after the arrival of Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh, at the venue when the CRPF personnel escorting the Chief Minister also insisted on taking their vehicle inside the stadium.
