CHANDIGARH: The Chief Ministers grandson, Gurkeet stands as one of the six accused molesters of French tourist, Ms. Kaittia. One of the families who has benefitted greatly from his grandfather’s participation in politics the young Singh and his cousins all have dubious records of making public spectacles of themselves.
Hopes to tap this grandson as the next president of the Punjab Youth Congress will have to wait until he finishes what many hope is a long jail term. While Congress I leaders are making statements that Ms. Katia is a drug addict spotted in the Seedier sections of Chandigarh while intoxicated, no witnesses could be found to back up the claim, Opposition leaders have been clamoring for Beant’s resignation justifiably saying “how can he control the state when he can’t keep his own house in order.”
News reports reached here stating that Ms. Kattia had positively identified Gurkeet, his bodyguard and a security officer in a lineup of over60 variously dressed and turbaned individuals.
Operating under great secrecy, the police have taken the suspects back and forth from jail and a safe house while under wraps.
MS, Kattia too appeared veiled in public and escorted by French Embassy officials and personal friends who told press reporters that she was not making any comments.
The state is awaiting a statement from the court and the C.M. who has thus for disclaimed his families’ involvement in what he calls the “Kattia incident.”
