CHANDIGARH: Former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh had planned to remove state police chief K.P.S. Gill, about a year before he was killed in a human bomb blast, reveals a hook by a retired police officer. “But against his (Beant Singh) will, Union Minister of State for internal Security Rajesh Pilot gave him (Gill) extension in service as long as he (Gill) liked,” says B.S, Danewalia (70), former Punjab police chief in his book “Police in Politic in the 20th century Punjab.” The 500page book coming out next month is replete with many startling political revelations much to the discomfort of many living personalities in the country.
“Beant Singh became a prisoner of police politics hierarchy and the central government, said Danewalia in an interview. Although the CBI has completed probe into the Beant Singh’s assassination and trial has begun, not a single constable has been suspended for the security lapse, regretted Danewalia, adding that Beant Singh was killed by the suspects who infiltrated the police security ring. “No police officer has been held accountable. Gill retired on completion of his extended tenure,” he regretted saying that many heads had rolled when Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were assassinated.
