CHANDIGARH: The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chandigarh, Mr. Shekhar Dhawant Dec. 11 committed the Beant ‘Singh assassination case for trial to the District and Sessions court and directed that the accused be produced in that court on Dec.18.

The five accused namely Lakhwinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Nasib Singh, Navjot Singh and Jagiar Singh Tara were produced in the court which was held inside the Burail jail. According to sources, Navjot who ‘was falsely implicated in a case by the Delhi police was continuously interrogated by the CBI so that they could force him to become an approver. He was also made to sign certain blank papers but he refused to toe the line of the CBI.

The CMJ also ordered that Navjot Singh should not be removed from the jail without the prior permission of the court till Dec.18.
