NEW DELHI: The Pan-Asian British broadcasting corporation television service was launched Monday with a one hour special live satellite broadcast linking New Delhi, London, Hongkong and seven Asia capitals.
The BBC television service, broadcast through the sate lite owned by the Hong Kong based Hutch vision’s satellite television Asian region (star), will be initially available for two hours every day from 1730 hours. This will be gradually expanded and by mid-November it will be a 24hour television broadcast, which will include world news bulletins every hour, followed by an Asian news bulletin and other BBC programs, Speaking at a press conference here, STARTVs vice president, David Mention aid the BBC would refrain full editorial control over the content of its inputs, both news and entertainment.
Declining to spell out in detail the relationship between STAR TV and BBC, he described it as a joint venture with a cooperative basis.
He said that star TV was planning to provide quality programs specially tailored to an Asian audience and added that inputs form India would be welcome.
