Sir,
In India, the BBC enjoys high credibility for unbiased news coverage. Their Hindi broadcasts are ahead of All India Radio in giving news and views. As long ago as the mid1950’s, tribals in the remote Nagaland areas listened to the BBC to get objective news. Today in rural Punjab, the scene is much the same.
The BBC deserves praise, in particular, for its extensive coverage of the recent elections. Its Reporting was succinct, educative and objective. Its broadcasts of telephonic interviews with personalities such as politicians, journalists, jurists, etc. helped one to get a clear picture of the election trends.
The BBC’s discussions and projections of the various options open to the President in the event of an uncertain result were the best. Views of leading luminaries in various disciplines were presented live followed by a summing up giving both sides of the picture.
