CALCUTTA (PTD): Chief Minister of the eastern west Bengal state Jyoti Basu has welcomed investment by multinationals in India which according to him will help save foreign exchange.
Basu has opposed prime minister Narasimha Raos liberation Policy stressed upon the need for self-reliance but at the same said achieving it did not mean that the Country be cut off from the rest of the world.
Referring to investments in West Bengal Basu said that two business groups had already proposed to-setup steel plants at Haldia and Kharagpur. The state government was holding consultations with them for a tie-up and would also help them in building the infrastructure for the proposed projects.
