The holder of nearly every record in the National Basketball Association (including most points: 38,387) retired last week after his team, the Los Angeles Lakers, lost the NBA championship to the Detroit Pistons. “I’m very happy and proud of what I’ve done,” said AbdulJabbar of his towering, 20year career. “Nobody can take that away from me.” Nobody would dream of trying.
