KURALLI, Punjab, India: The President of Akali Dal (L) and former Chief Minister of Punjab, Susjit Singh Barnala, welcomed the unity move by Jathedar of Akal Takht, Singh Sahib Bhai Jasbir Singh and offered to step down from the party post to pave the way for the unity in the Panth. Addressing a big gathering at Utali village near here, Barnala said that he was ready to present himself before the High Priest of Akal Takht to make this offer. He said that he would not hesitate to make any sacrifice for the sake of unity in the Akali Dal. He hoped that the new Jathedar of Akal Takht, Bhai Jasbir Singh will be able to give proper direction to the Sikh community. He further said that his party will extend all possible help to Bhai Jasbir Singh. Barnala stoutly opposed the proposed Constitutional amendment by the Center. He said that these steps will further complicate the already complicated problem.
