AMRITSAR: At last Surjit Singh Barnala presented himself before the Akal Takhat on December 5, 1988. He also brought his resignation from the president ship of Akali Dal (L) to clear desks to waive his excommunication from the Panth. Mr. Barnala also dissolved the working committee and removed all the office bearers of his party as desired by the head priests. But Mr. Barnala told the head priests that he was not competent to dissolve his Akali Dal.
The head priests headed by Prof Darshan Singh the chief of Akal Takhat accepted his pleas and told him to perform Sewa for a month and then again appear before the Akal Takhat to get his excommunication withdrawn.
Mr. Barnala accompanied by his son Gagan deep and one thousand supporters reached Akal Takhat at the scheduled time. Soon after the directive, Mr. Barnala immediately started the Sewa as directed by the Akal Takhat.
However the militants have issued a warning to Prof. Darshan Singh for stopping such dramas by forgiving men like Sunjit Singh Barnala.
It may be recalled that Mr. Sujit Singh Barnala was ex-communicated from the panth in February 1987 for having refused to abide by the verdict of the Akal Takhat Jathedars.
