NEW DELHI, Nov. 10: India: Punjab Chief Minister, Mr. Surjit Singh Barnala, met Rajiv Gandhi two days ago to apprise the Prime Minister of the political situation in the state. Mr. Barnala demanded the earlier release of Sikh detainees in Jodhpur jail, He apprised Mr. Gandhi of several discussions that he had with the opposition party in Punjab and said that the opposition leaders wanted to meet the Prime Minister. Mr Gandhi will meet them next week. Meanwhile the Punjab government urged the Central government to direct the Cotton corporation to immediately ship the huge quantities of cotton lying in the various Mandi (markets) of the state.
