DHAKA: A British warship and two Japanese helicopters Sunday joined the massive relief mission by us marine troops in Bangladesh’s cyclone battered areas now codenamed “Operation Sea Angel”.
The Sea Angels with the help of Blackhawk helicopters and hovercraft have been ferrying dry food medicines and drinking water to offshore islands.
Meanwhile a finance ministry official said Sunday Bangladesh would ask for 1991-92 aid pledge of 2.3 billion dollars at the Paris club meeting later this month.
He said the amount would be marginally higher than the 2.18 billion dollars recommended by the world bank the aid club’s coordinator and would include 1.5 billion dollars in project aid 529 dollars in commodity aid and 108 million dollars in food aid.
The two Japanese helicopters which flew to Chittagong Saturday began supplying relief from Sunday. A 50-member Japanese disaster relief t Scheduled to reach Chi later Sunday and begin relief work.
