DHAKA (PTI): Suspected militant fundamentalists hurled two home-made crude bombs on the residence of the editor of a leading vermicular weekly which regularly carried a column by feminist author Taslima Nasreen police sources said last week.

Both the bombs fell just outside the entrance to the compound of the residence of Shafik Rehman editor of “Jai Jai Din” but none was hurt they said.

No Islamic group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack which came in the wake of a warrant of arrest against Rehman issued by a court in northeastern district town of Moulvi bazar for outraging religious sentiments of Muslims. The warrant was issued following a case filed by a Muslim religious scholar

Shafik Rahman is the second intellectual whose residence was attacked by suspected militant fundamentalists inside a week.

Earlier crude bombs were also hurled on the residence of Ahmad Sharif a noted leftist intellectual and a former teacher of Dhaka University who has been on the hit list of fundamentalist.
