Banda Bahadur was Madho Das a hermit exercising supernatural powers on the bank of river Godawni. Guru Gobind’ Singh transformed him to a soldier fighting for truth and justice. After Guru Gobind Singh he took the responsibility of gathering Sikh forces and took Tevenge from the Nayab of Sirhind by giving him a crushing defeat. He assumed royal authority and struck first Sikh coin not his own name but in the name of True Guru. His Official seal similarly contained no reference to his person, but was dedicated to the eternal glory of the Gurus. It read: “Degh Tegh Fateh”. He was captured fighting Mughal forces along with his followers and executed on Sunday June 19,1716.
