New Delhi: The ban on the militant outfit Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (KLF) would continue as its activities were still considered detrimental to the safety of the country Indian Home Minister S. B. Chavan said Sunday. He said the governor of the northern Indian state of Jammu Kashmir G.C. Saxena had only state the technical position when he said the at JKLF was a lawful organization since the special tribunal which periodically reviews the status of banned outfits had run out of its time to decide the IKLF case.

Asked if the time had come for initiating the political process in the valley Chavan said “there is a distinct change in the situation but I do not call it normal.” Regardless of the perceptible change in the ground situation it was difficult to say if the time was ripe for taking a political initiative the Home Minister felt. He regretted that no political party had been able to make its presence felt in the valley.

The Home Minister wondered why political leaders belonging to major parties including the Congress and the National Conference were not making their presence felt in the troubled valley.
