Chandigarh: Mr, Jaswinder Singh, an AISSF activist, was beaten up at the Kapurthala bus stand by the personnel of the Punjab police when he and a few other students tried to upset the movement of buses in protest against the arrest of Prof, Darshan Singh. He was taken to a police station a few yards away from the bus stand. Three girl students followed Mr. Jaswinder Singh when he was being taken to the police station and raised antipolice slogans. The girl students were also beaten up and taken to the police station.
When this news spread in the town, a number of lawyers assembled outside the police station and demanded immediate release of the girl students. They also held a rally in front of the police station The SP released the girls and sent them in a police jeep to their respective villages. A meeting of Sikh lawyers Forum condemned the beating of the girl students and their confinement in the police station.
