CALGARY: Indesjit S.Bal Cochair for Standing Committee on Multiculturalism for Liberal Party of Canada was invited to be the Head table of the Confederation Dinner 1992; hosted by liberal Party of Canadian Sheraton Center Ballroom in Toronto on October 21, 1992. The honorable Jean Chretien the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada was the key note Speaker Among the special guests at the Head Table were Prince Edward Island Premier Joe Ghiz New Brunswick Premier Frank McKenna Ontario Liberal Leader Lyn McLeod Alberta Liberal Leader Lawrence Decore former Ontario Premier David Peterson National Caucus Chair Sergio Marchi Toronto Mayor June Rowlands Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario) President Milton Mowbray Honorable Keith Davey Honorable David Smith and Senator Micheal Kirby. Among the prominent business leader’s present at this Dinner were John Cleghom president of the Royal Bank of Canada and George Harvey The head of Unitel.
While speaking to the audience of more than 1600 people who paid $300.00 to listen Chretien said “I am the last person who wants to help this Prime Minister but he is cooked any way so let’s tum the Page.” Mulroneys Political fate is sealed regardless of which side wins the referendum. A no vote he continued would create a sense of national failure and produce uncertainty within Canada and abroad. “What will be the effect on the ceremony? I don’t know. Nobody knows exactly” he said. “So we have to move forward to commit ourselves to the future of this country.”
It was the largest turnout since the 1988 dinner which took place in the middle of the federal election campaign.
“It is mater of great pride for our community and the recognition of the contribution made by us all collectively over the years in this Party” said Inderjit Bal when asked about his feelings “It is nice to be counted in who is who in this Party but let me assure you” he added “day is not far off when one of us will be sitting in the House of Commons to speak for our community.”
“It is the great opportunity for liberals of Bramalea Gore Malton to nominate the candidate like Bal who is well recognized in the top party circles” remarked Avtar S Lottay who was present at the dinner.
Shardeljit S.Dhillon and Pritam S.Gurcha and Kashmir Singh also expressed similar feelings about Bals presence.
Inderjit Singh Bal has been in the Member of the Liberal Party since 1979 and has worked in the various Federal Provincial and Municipal Campaigns Bal was one of the key organizers of Jean Chretiens Team during the leadership Convention held at Calgary 1990.
At present Bal is a Member of National Executive of Liberal Party of Canada and Co-Chair of the Standing committee on Multiculturalism. Bal is a member of the National Campaign Committee and also sits on the Ontario and Metro campaign committees. He is active in Community affairs and has been a key organizer of annual sports competitions and cultural functions He has also actively participated the organization of number of Blood Donation Camps Food drives and Inter Community Banquets to promote the inter community race relation. Bal is also a member of advisory committee of Ankhela Punjab Radio broadcast where he is a weekly commentator of current National and international affairs.
