Chandigarh: Differences have reportedly come between the Bains committee and the Punjab police. The Bains committee was constituted to review the cases of Sikhs detained in jails and it is headed by Justice Mr. Ajit Singh Bains, Justice Bains is unhappy at the constitution of a Police Committee to review the recommendations made by his committee. He is also unhappy with Police and House department for releasing only 200 odd youths out of a total of 2,000 recommended by the commission.
He has charged that Police and the Home department are doing everything possible to thwart his recommendations and that they

were not cooperating with him. He reportedly met the Chief Minister, S. Surjit Singh Barnala and informed him that if police and the Home department continued to no cooperate, then, he would be forced to tender his designators from the committee.
On the other hand police and Home department officials feel that if Sikhs were released in such a manner, then, law and order situation in the state can further deteriorate.
Justice Bains explained that the recommendation for the release of those charged with murder should also be considered as more that 90% of the arrested youths have been falsely framed in one murder case or the other. The Chief Minister is likely to convene a joint meeting of two committees to sort out the matter.
