CHANDIGARH: Justice J.B.Garg of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, confirmed the anticipatory bail of Gurcharan Singh Tohra, president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in what has come to be known as the Lang murder case.
Baldev Singh Lang was murdered while contesting the election to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha from Samana constituency in Patiala district Militants had given a call for boycotting the elections and about20 candidates had been killed at various places, resulting In countermanding of the polls there.
Amrik Sigh Kaoli of Babbar Khalsa had owned responsibility for the killing of Lang. G.S.Grewal, H.S.Nagra and Baljit K.Mann, counsels for Tohra, argued that Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh, wanted to implicate Tohra to politically malign him. In spite of the interim bail granted to Tohra by the court, he was never summoned for interrogation by police and many adjoumments were taken by the State of Punjab to file written Statements.
