CHANDIGARH: In an apparently smooth changeover former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal was elected president of the Akali Dal in place of Jagdev Singh Talwandi by the general house of the party.
On a proposal of Badal, Talwandi has been made patron of the party and also authorized the president to appoint office bearers. Going by the proceedings of this meeting it seems the crisis in the Akali Dal B has blown over.
The Indian Govt may have told Badal that assembly elections were in the offering to have made the group come together like this, observers here feel. Publicly however the Govt posture is not to elections as yet.
