CHANDIGARH: Baba Joginder Singh, father of the late Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, and A.I.S.S.F. leader Bhai Manjit Singh were released by the Indian government after keeping them in jail for more than three months. They were picked up soon after the “hola mohalla” function at Anandpur Saheb where certain Over ground Sikh organizations Gave a call for Khalistan. The attitude of the two leaders towards Simranjit Singh Mann-inspired demand for the prosecution of S.G.P.C. Chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra for killing a Mann Dal leader Lang is being viewed with interest by political circles here. Manjit Singh’s group was at first associated with the Mann group in the demand for anti-Tohra enquiry. Later a statement was circulated whereby Bhai Manjit Singh reportedly said that his group was not one with Mann on the issue. Another important issue under discussion these days is Bhai Daljit Singh’s initiative for unity among over ground student organizations to lend effective support to the Khalistan movement, It transpires that a group of leaders belonging to Sikh Students Federation (Bhai Daljit Singh) had met Bhai Manjit Singh in Bathinda jail with certain proposals to bring about unity among student organizations,
Bhai Manjit Singh’s release under these circumstances assumes significance in political circles. Does India want to help or hinder the process of unity is a moot question.
