CHANDIGARH (PTI) suspected militants affected a four feet wide breach in the embankment of Bhakra mainline canal while seven persons including four Haryana policemen were killed in Punjab since May 31.
The Bhakra mainline canal was breached near village Patrehri in Ropar district. The four-foot wide breach has been filled and there was no loss of life or property police said.
Gunmen shot dead one person in Majitha police district. The four Haryana cops were killed when their team went to village Matoli in Patiala district in search of some militants hiding there
The militants numbering about four or five opened fire at the police party killing two inspectors an assistant sub-inspector and a constable all from hisar district of Haryana.
One civilian was also injured in the cross firing. Further details are awaited. The militants how: ever escaped. Two militants were killed in a encounter with security men near village Kotli Sakkan in Majitha police district.
