An attempt was made to sabatoge the power supply to Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan from the Bhakra Beas complex by blowing up three angle towers on the night of August 18, 1985. Explosives planted at the Angle tower near Mohali and Kurali in Punjab and Rangarh in Haryana went off around 9:00 p.m. but failed to fell the towers which would have plunged parts of Haryana into darkness and affected the power supply to Delhi and Punjab.

According to police sources in all the three cases the angle tower attack appeared to have been selected with great care, the collapse of any of them would have felled dozen more towers in either direction. At both Mohali and Kurali two out of four had been damaged. Sabotage attempt against angle towers had been made earlier also consequently police patrolling was started along these important supply lines after these incidents.
