Srinagar — Demonstrations in Kashmir Valley are continuing against a petition which was moved in the Calcutta High Court by two Hindus praying for a ban on Muslim sacred scripture ‘Holy KORAN’ even though the petition has been hurriedly dismissed.

In the petition it was contended that the Holy Koran contained passages that preached hatred against other religions and also offended the religious sensibilities of the Hindus. The admission of the petition by the High Court sparked off wide Spread protests. In Bangladesh there were violent demonstrations against the attack on the Holy Koran. Police had to open fire killing seven persons to control the angry precisionists.

In Srinagar also police resorted to lathi-charge and burst tear gas shells to disperse the protesting crowds.
