CHANDIGARH: President of Akali Dal, the majority party in the strife torn state of Punjab, Simranjit Singh Mann, escaped an attempt on his life Friday night.
One of his supporters was killed in Thikriwal village in Sangrur district as a guard of Rajdev Singh a member of parliament from Sangrur, fired at Mann at a party meeting, party sources here said.
The incident followed a clash between supporters of Mann and Rajdev Singh at the meeting after allegations and counter allegations of collecting money by each other’s supporters, the sources said,
The official guard of Rajdev Singh suddenly opened fire at Mamn who was present at the meeting, they said.
Mann’s supporters later beat the assailant to death.
