It is with great pity and disgust to learn the news that Turbans attract ire aimed at Iraqis (WSN, 25 Jan 1991). Americans call themselves educated and civilized, and express pride in their knowledge about the world and science, President Bush shouts words against racism and stereotyping in his address to the nation on 29th Jan 1991. Yet there are thousands of so called Americans who pride themselves in their ignorance and their actions are sub human. They should know that none of the Arabs in America wear turbans and turban is not necessary for Muslims as it is for the Sikhs.
Still another category of people think Sikhs are part of Hindus. They must know that the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak declared in very clear terms ¢Na ham Hindu Na Musalman Neither i am a Hindu, nor a Muslim. Sikhs believe in one God, Hindus keep one God for every occasion. Sikh believes in the equality of all mankind. Hindus have divided mankind into castes, in which superiority of some is of utmost importance, Sikhs believe in the brotherhood of all mankind. Hindus are fighting violent battles, when their government tries to allot job to lower castes to get their votes. Hindus persecute any who do not subjugate themselves to their views, In December alone 5000 were killed and 20,000 were injured in battles between Hindus and Muslims. Sikhs are also being tortured and killed in thousands, for their religious beliefs. The list is very long to convince anyone that Sikhs are a race apart from Hindus and Arabs.
Sikhism is not a sect of Hinduism or any other religion.
The Sikh religion was created in rebellion against The Caste System (apartheid), the worship of a multitude of gods, and hypocritical rituals and related evils. Ignorance is a curse. Better informed folks do not call Sikhs as a sect of any other religion, Sikhs are proud to have a good knowledge of other religions and nationalities that is why they are Sikhs.
