KAPURTHALA: A senior Akali Dal-M leader Atma Singh escaped with gunshot in 4u.ries when some assailants attacked him at his residence here. A person who identified himself as Jarnail Singh of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Commando Force telephoned newsmen to own responsibility for the attack. He said all anti-Indian leaders like Mann and Atma Singh along with militants of Bhindranwale Tiger of Force of Khalistan would be eliminated,
Mann in a statement at Chandigarh suspected the hand of the govt and warmed of serious consequences of the attack on Atma Singh. Several parties and organisations of the town including Hindu Parishad and BJP condemned the attack.
Akali Youth wing chief Ajaypal Singh blamed the Police Black Cats for the attack on Atma Singh.
Meanwhile the police arrested Dal-M gen secy Gursharan Singh on charges of extorting money from a trader of Tej Nagar, Nirmal Singh. Also wanted in the case is an SGPC clerk Ravinder Singh. He is absconding Rs 20,000 were seized from the Akali leader by the police.
