The Sikh community of Canada is slated that last week’s Supreme Court decision denying the right changes to RCMP dress codes allowing turbans. It is a clear reaffirmation ‘of Canadian laws, demonstrating the ability of the Canadian judiciary to uphold the rights of all citizens to participate freely in all public institutions.

As an intervener in the this seating case, the World Selection is pleased that there will be: no further waste of the taxpayer’s dollars to decide an issue that has exhausted all levels of discussion, debate, and negotiation, The Sikh community of Canada has received continual’ support from ‘Canadians for the preservation of religious freedoms as set out in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The debates have consistently confirmed the rights of the RCMP to allow an exemption from the dress code requirements of the RCMP uniform, and accommodate the wearing of the Sikh articles of faith. ‘These decisions have consistently supported the wearing of articles of faith by a Sikh police officer.

The final decision of the Supreme Court of Canada recently serves to send a very clear message to those who have. Wasted taxpayer dollars to challenge Tights guaranteed to Canadians in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Sikhs, renowned for their efforts in the World Wars, and for their commitment to justice and equality, have once again been supported by all Canadians and are welcomed to participate equally in all of Canada’s policing.

Canada has become a leader in the international community for the enshrinement of equality, justice, and freedom for all of Canada’s peoples. We hone such affirmative action by Canada| will promote progress and set a positive example for those areas of the world where such freedoms do not exist.
