SAN FRANCISCO: 0n December 27, 1991, Honorable Immigration Judge Philip Lead better of the San Francisco Immigration Court granted political asylum to Ghulam Mian Jalani for his claim of having been persecuted in Pakistan because he is a Ahmadi (Merzai), Pakistan labels as anti-Muslim and Kafirs (Infidels).
Jalani came to United States on October 24,90 on a purchased passport and with a work authorization card ostensibly issued in Virginia, He was arrested at the San Francisco airport and placed in exclusion proceedings.
He was brought before the Immigration Judge almost once every week. He could neither afford an Attomey nor was one willing to represent him free of charge. Jalani had no money and those who arranged to bring him in United States for price would not help him, He was interviewed by the India West and he gave facts, names and other information about the agents who took his 1.50 lakhs of rupees and left him in the cold.
On January 4,191 Mohinder Singh, Attomey of Law, based in Lafayette Calif, 510-283-7382, accepted the representation free of any charge and filed Jalani claim with the Court. Subsequently, district director Immigration Service was approached who very graciously released Jalani from custody without any bond Jalani thereafter got a valid work permit and started working for a store in San Francisco.
He claimed he is a Ahmadi Merzai by faith and that he was persecuted in Pakistan on several occasions. He gave a thorough account of each arrest and torture including a few it jury marks and scars on his legs and toes. Immigration was represented by general attorney Tue Phan Quang, At the close of the hearings, the Judge granted asylum to Jalani based upon his claim for religious persecution immigration Service waived its right to appeal, thereby making the Judge’s decision final.
