GUWAHATI: Fourteen people have lost their lives in the current floods in Assam as the situation took a turn for the worse in the Kamrup, Nagaon and Mongaon districts, affecting several thousands of people.

Official reports here Sunday said, 11 deaths were reported from the worst affected districts of Nagaon and Morigaon and three from Kamrup.

The district administration has opened 315 relief camps in Nagaon district and 25 in Kamrup district to provide relief to the affected people, reports said.

Most rivers in the three districts were raising threatening fresh areas of human habitation and cropland.

Assam revenue minister Mukut Sarma toured the worst-affected areas of Nagaon and Morigaon districts during the day.

The flood waters also damaged several hectares area of standing crop in the districts of Nagaon, Morigaon and Kamrup.
