GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has lodged an informal protest with the Centre over the appointment of the former Congress I Rajasthan Chief Minister Harideo Joshi, as Governor of the State.
The Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta told newsmen that be was not consulted
over the appointment of Joshi as the Governor. He was merely “informed” about the appointment cover the telephone. He said that he had sought a meeting with the Central leaders to discuss the matter but he was told that “it would be too late.”
‘State Govt Not Consulted Mahanta said that the State Government should have been consulted before the announcement was made by Rashtrapati Bhavan. He pointed out that the Centre had been treating the non-Congress (I) ruled states in the same manner ie. appointing trusted Congress I politicians as Governors over the appointment of Governors and cited the recent change in West Bengal.
