CHANDIGARH: An Assistant Sub Inspector of police, a constable and a sarpanch were among, 20 persons killed’ in Punjab on August 18.
ASI Nirmal Singh and Constable Raunaq Ram were killed when their patrol party was ambushed| near Sanwar Chowk in Patiala district.
The car of Punjab Youth Congress President Maninderjit Singh Bitta was ambushed near Jandiala. His security men exchanged fire with gunmen. No one was injured.
A school headmaster Chaman Lal was shot dead at Harar village in Ferozepore district. Gunmen entered the house of sarpanch Swaran Singh at Dode village in Tam Taran police district (Amritsar) and opened fire killing him and his son Amar Singh.
A gang of 12 gunmen raided the house of Kashmir Singh at Sohal village in Tarn Taran police district and shot dead his wife Sit a Rani and daughter in law Narinder Kaur. In Majitha police district in Amritsar Dalvir Singh was shot dead at Hadud village on August 18.
A police patrol party was ambushed near Ghasitpur in Batala police district (Gurdaspur) injuring Sub Inspector Rachhapal Singh and Constables Kashmir Singh and Jagir Singh.
Gunmen attacked a police station in Sarhali in Tarn Taran police district. They escaped when the policemen on duty returned the fire. Nobody was injured in the incident.
In another incident gunmen raided a special police officer picket at Dargar in the same district.
