CHANDIGARH: Eleven persons, including four security personnel and three freedom fighters were killed and two banks were looted in unabated violence in Punjab on March 13.
In an encounter, security forces shot dead an unidentified man near Bizaliwal village in Batala police district this evening, a report from Amritsar said. Quoting DIG (Border) Gurigbal Singh Bullar, the report said the encounter took place when militants ambushed a police party, the party returned the fire killing one of the militants.
Punjab police Assistant Sub Inspector Gurtej Singh who was driving the car of Faridkot SSP and CRPF Sub-Inspector Gurcharan Singh were also killed and five CRPF personnel were injured in the encounter.
An AK-47 rifle, a mouser, a rifle, a revolver, a police uniform and a large quantity of ammunition was recovered from the scene the police said here.
