SRINAGAR: Army moved in to assist security forces in this capital city of Jammu and Kashmir state Feb 11 as a strike called by militants brought normal life to a standstill in the valley.
Three important towns of North Kashmir -Kupwara Handwara and Sopore -were brought under curfew Monday following reports that militants planned to create trouble.
A militant was killed in an exchange of fire between militants and security men at Fateh kadal. Two persons including paramilitary personnel were injured when militants threw a powerful hand grenade on them at Khawaja Bazar near Khanyar. The grenade attack was followed by firing the sources said
Militants also exchanged fire with the security men al victory crossing in Rainawari fired rockets on a picket of central reserve police force at Naid kadal and exploded a bomb in Gojwara. Two persons were injured at Rainawari and Naidkadal. Searches were also conducted in Nowata Pandan Wazir Bagh court road Natipora and other localities to flush out militants and their Harborers.
Life in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley was affected as all offices banks and business establishments were closed in response to a strike called by some militant groups to observe the seventh death anniversary of outlawed Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Maqbool Butt.
