CHANDIGARH: Major Harinder Singh Sekhon alleged in a letter to the Indian government that his daughter Captain Man Preet Sekhon had been abducted by Capt Amarinder Singh, Akali Dal (Longowal) member of Punjab Assembly.
Sekhon said his daughter had joined Punjab Government’s Civil Aviation Department in middle of 1991 as a commercial pilot to gain experience under the Aviation Adviser, Kaminder Singh an uncle of Amarinder Singh, On March 16, Major Sekhon drove his daughter to the airfield at Patiala as usual, Kaminder Singh and Manpreet were to take a flight to Chandigarh on that day but had not returned so far to the parent’s house. During this period, according to Major Sekhon, Manpreet telephoned only once to the house but none afterwards.
The father searched for the daughter at Kulu, Delhi, Bombay and other places but to no avail. When he asked Captain Kaminder Singh about the whereabouts of the girl, he first said that she had gone to Delhi to take an examination; she did not run up even after several days. He went again to Kaminder’s house to find out; he then replied that Amarinder Singh had taken her abroad and that she would return after some lime.
Major Sekhon alleged that her daughter although younger than Amarinder’s own daughter ha been kept somewhere by the Akal M.L.A. and was being we treated at his mistress and that his daughter had been completely brain-was he by Amarinder Singh. Amarinder Singh himself is un available for comment but one ¢ his aides has pleaded on his behalf that Major Sekhon’s complain had been procured by Punjab chic minister Beant Singh to damage the former’s prospects of becoming the next chief minister of the state. Amarinder, however, ad mitted that he and Manpreet had been friends for quite some time and all the much were being raised to discredit him politically.
