BATHINDA: Former human resources development minister, Arjun Singh, is visiting Punjab on March 23 to address public meetings at Hussainiwala in Ferozepur district and Bathinda.
This was stated by Punjab dissident Congress leader and MP, Jagmeet Singh Brar, here at a press conference recently.
Brar said that Arjun Singh would address a martyrdom day function at Hussainiwala and a kisan conference at Bathinda the same day. He said that Morcha volunteers had started mobilizing people for these two meetings. Brar said that dissidence in the Punjab Congress had been growing and the circumstances may lead to change in the party leadership in the state. He said that although induction of Buta Singh in the Union Cabinet had disappointed him but it is significant that he had moved to a position where he would find more opportunities to look after the interests of Punjabis and particularly the downtrodden. Brar said that unity in the Akali Dal factions would not last long because of personality clash between senior leaders. He said that Akalis had failed to accept a single person as party leader. He however said that Anandpur Sahib resolution was still relevant and can be the basis of Akali unity. He said that there was nothing anti-national in that resolution.
Brar said that he too advocated autonomy to states as he felt that aspirations of the people can only be satisfied with vesting more powers to them. He opposed large scale privatization but he was not against liberalization.
