CHANDIGARH: India’s minister for human resources, Arjun Singh, visited Punjab for two days at last week’s end but, contrary to protocol, no minister of the Beant Singh government was present at any of his functions, He entered Punjab by car at the Rajpura Ambala border and he was received by a small group of dissident Congressmen such as Birdevinder Singh and Kesho Ram. Arjun Singh met his old friends who had helped him in arriving at the Rajiv Longowal accord in 1985 while he was governor of Punjab. From his moves it appeared to observers that the dissident leader of the ruling party is gelling ready to launch some sort of a new political initiative.
