NEW DELHI: Arjun Singh has asked the Congress (I) to come out with a “political white paper” with details of dialogue between the Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, and the BJPRSS leaders prior to the Babri Masjid demolition, and assailed the party leadership for its failure to counter the BJP move to project itself as the national alternative to the ruling party in the 1996 Lok Sabha elections.
Talking to reporters, the expelled Congress(1) leaders said that it was absolutely imperative to checkmate attempts by the BJP-RSS combine at disinformation.
Singh said “ultimately people will reject divisive politics. But if we sit quiet and give them a walkover, it will not augur well for the Congress(1).”
The former human resource development minister also deprecated the Congress(1) high command for keeping silent on the comments made by the RSS chief, Prof Rajendra Singh, on his parleys with Rao, on the Ayodhya issue.
He said that he was still a member of the Congress (1) party in Parliament and would attend the CLP meeting whenever he felt like doing so.
Singh cited the ruling given by the Speaker, Shivraj Patil, in the case concerning Ajit Singh and others when they left the Janata Dal. The Speaker had at that time taken the view that developments outside the House cannot be made basis for depriving a member of his rights and privileges. Singh said his proposed Bhopal rally on March 9 would not have any impact on the Digvijay Singh government in Madhya Pradesh, saying any attempt to destabilize the state government would directly help the BJP.
