CHANDIGARH: Eleven militants, one of them an area commander of the militant organisations “Khalistan Commando Force (KCF)”, and an assistant sub-inspector of police, were among 18 people killed in the northern Indian state of Punjab.
Gunmen kidnapped three people, including an inspector of food and supplies, during the period.
A militant of “Babbar Khalsa” committed suicide by consuming cyanide after he was nabbed by security forces during a search operation in Fategarh Shakarchack village in Amritsar district.
Three militants, including Bhai Mohinder Singh, area commander of “KCF”, were killed in an encounter with security forces in Bahadur area of Faridkot district,
Mohinder Singh was wanted in 70 cases of killings and operated in Faridkot and Bathinda districts, police said.
Two people, Ishwar Singh and Kesar Singh, were gunned down by gunmen in Tibba village in Ludhiana district.

Militants entered the house of headman Sukhdev Singh in Dhingra village in Ludhiana district and shot dead assistant subinspector Jamail Singh and a civilian there.
They also shot dead home guard Jagraj Singh, his brother Jagbir Singh and father Gurdev Singh in Pakho village in Sangrur district.
Police said two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter near Kulwan village in Sangrur district. One stenguns with magazine, 12 cartridges and one bomb was found at the spot.
Another militant was killed in an encounter near Bugran village in the district, police said.
Two unidentified militants were killed in different encounters near Aiman Kalan village (Tam Taran district) & near Lalo Khurd (Fategarh Sahib District).
