NEW DELHI: Palestinian President Yasser Arafat will arrive in New Delhi next month on a state visit. According to an Indian external affairs ministry spokesman Arafat will be visiting New Delhi in the second half of March on an invitation by Indian President Ramaswamy Venkataraman.
The Palestine Liberation Organization Chief will be honored with the Jawaharlal Nehru award for international understanding for 1988 during his visit.
Arafat had come on a state visit last year.
The spokesman said that Arafat’s visit was symbolic of the unequivocal and strong reassertion of New Delhi’s unfailing and consistent support to the Palestinian because the talks on the Palestinian issue appear to have reached a state of stagnation.
